Drawing the city…

Isometric Toronto

An isometric illustrated map of Toronto, drawn as one picture, a homage to the city builders of the 1990s. Drag to pan, scroll or pinch to zoom, and get close: every block is drawn.

A work in progress. This is downtown only for now (the waterfront to Bloor, Bathurst to the Don Valley). More of the city is coming, and soon you'll be able to click a building to see what it is.

Follow along on X: the build thread. Made by John Fewell.

How it's made

Google's Photorealistic 3D Tiles are rendered with one orthographic camera (30° down, on the diagonal of the street grid) and registered to the open data behind Slop Toronto. A Gemini model drew a set of teacher illustrations, a LoRA on Qwen-Image learned the style from them, and the whole map was then denoised as one image, so there are no tile seams. The method follows Tiny London by Boris Starkov, which built on Andy Coenen's Isometric NYC.
